The next District of Lantzville General Local Election will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
The purpose of the 2026 General Local Election is to elect:
Those elected will serve a four-year term. The District of Lantzville will also participate in the local School Trustee election, which will be on the same ballot, as applicable.
Local governments are responsible for administering local elections, including receiving nomination documents, running voting opportunities, counting ballots, and reporting election results. Elections BC is responsible for administering campaign financing and election advertising rules under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.
To be eligible as a candidate in the 2026 General Local Election for the office of Mayor or Councillor, you must meet the following criteria at the time your nomination documents are filed:

For the 2026 General Local Election, nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer before the close of the nomination period. The previous requirement for an original copy of faxed or emailed nomination documents has been removed.
Candidates are strongly encouraged to make an appointment and submit documents early enough for election staff to review the package for completeness before the nomination period closes.
Nomination papers must be signed by at least two qualified nominators. A qualified nominator must be an elector who is eligible to vote in the District of Lantzville.

All candidates must submit a Statement of Financial Disclosure as part of the nomination package. This statement is required under the Financial Disclosure Act and is separate from the campaign financing disclosure statement that candidates must file with Elections BC after the election.
All candidates must have a Financial Agent. A candidate is their own Financial Agent unless another individual is appointed in writing. Candidates may also appoint an Official Agent and scrutineers, as applicable.

A prospective candidate officially becomes a candidate once all required information has been submitted before the close of the nomination period and the person has been declared a candidate by the Chief Election Officer.
After nomination documents are filed, candidate information may be posted on the District's website and shared with Elections BC and CivicInfo BC, as applicable.
Nomination documents and financial disclosure statements are available for public inspection at Municipal Hall during regular office hours from the time they are submitted until 30 days after the election results are declared.
If nomination documents are made available online, personal information such as residential addresses and telephone numbers must be redacted before being posted. Electors may view unredacted nomination documents at the local government office, but they must first sign a declaration confirming that they will only use the information for purposes authorized under election legislation.

For 2026, Elections BC's local candidate contribution information states that eligible individuals may contribute up to the annual local campaign contribution limit. Candidates should always confirm the current limit directly with Elections BC before accepting contributions.

An elector organization, sometimes called a local political party, may endorse candidates in a local election. Only elector organizations registered with Elections BC may endorse candidates, receive campaign contributions, or incur election expenses.
Elector organizations must follow Elections BC rules for registration, campaign financing, election advertising, expense limits, contribution limits, and financial reporting. The deadline to apply to register an elector organization for the 2026 General Local Election is Friday, July 31, 2026.
For the 2026 General Local Election, candidate endorsement information is included with candidate nomination documents and requires signed consent statements from the candidate and the authorized principal official of the elector organization.
Candidates and campaign teams are responsible for reviewing and following all election sign, campaigning, advertising, and District bylaw requirements.
Local election signs may not be placed before the campaign period begins on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Signs must be removed within seven days after General Voting Day.
Campaigning and election signs are not permitted within 100 metres of a voting place during voting opportunities. This includes signs, advertisements, bumper stickers, posters, buttons, flyers, or other materials that support or oppose a candidate.
On General Voting Day, election advertising must not be transmitted to the public.
Candidates may appoint scrutineers as permitted under the Local Government Act. Scrutineers must follow election official instructions, sign required declarations, protect the secrecy of the vote, remain in designated areas, and must not interfere with voting or counting proceedings.
Candidates, candidate representatives, and financial agents must not assist electors with marking a ballot or translating voting instructions.
