The Board of Variance is a quasi-judicial body independent of the municipal Council. The Board’s purpose is to decide, upon application from a property owner, whether a building/structure can be built/altered when it would be an “undue hardship” for the property owner to comply with municipal bylaws in specific “minor” ways. An application form and meeting schedule can be found on this website. The District of Lantzville's Board of Variance is made up of 3 members at large, appointed by Council.
When an application is received, the Board meets on the third Thursday of the month. The bylaws that outline the Board's structures, duties, responsibilities as well as application form and fee structure are
Board of Variance Bylaw No. 2003-10 and
Board of Variance Bylaw No. 2003-10, Amendment Bylaw No. 10.1.
